it all started in 1994 when…
A young man named Townsend Belisle decided to put together an a cappella group that would perform up and down the historic Cape Cod peninsula all summer long. He began auditioning singers at nearby colleges, and thanks to his vision and the unwavering ambition of the 10 young men he selected, Hyannis Sound was born.

Live All-Natural A Cappella
The inaugural members worked day jobs to support themselves and learned music at night- they say by candlelight, but we're not so sure.
They’d perform just about anywhere they could, and eventually earned themselves regular slots at popular Cape Cod vacation destinations like Richard’s Gallery and the late Thompson’s Clam Bar where they were often paid in plates of Chicken Fingers.

Our Reputation
The group’s reputation began to grow with each summer. In the early 2000’s, the group ditched their day jobs and transitioned to performing full time and recording studio albums every two years. They would later land a sponsorship with Vineyard Vines, giving them their signature pastel-clad look.

Today, Hyannis Sound is a staple of the community and a must-see experience for Cape Cod locals and summer visitors alike. In fact, we celebrated the group’s 30th anniversary with a special concert hosted by HS2024 to honor each iteration of Hyannis Sound that came before them. During the concert, six “super groups” were formed, each consisting of members from a specific five-year period. For example, Super Group 4 included members from 2008 to 2013, while Super Group 5 was made up of members from 2014 to 2019. Each super group performed three songs during the concert.
