Rory Latham

Business Manager

New Haven, CT | Yale University ‘25+1

Rory is delighted to be with the Hyannis Sound family for his second summer! He is 21 years old and from New Haven, CT where he’s lived his whole life. Rory just finished his junior year at Yale University where he’s studying history with a focus in empires and colonialism.

Ever since he can remember, Rory has been singing at church and school. At age 8 he joined Trinity Church on the Green’s Choir of Men and Boys where he received formal musical and vocal training for 7 years. Rory got his first taste of singing a cappella while in high school where he sang with a group called The Maiyeros. He also studied the bagpipes and a little bit of guitar during his childhood.

At school, he’s sung with the Yale Glee Club and Yale Repertory Chorus, performed with the Yale Artists Caberet, and dabbled in musical theater, opera, and art song. He also just finished his time in his underclassmen a cappella group, the Yale Alley Cats, where he was the business manager during his sophomore year. Starting this fall, Rory will take the year off from school to travel the world and sing with the Yale Whiffenpoofs!

When he’s not singing, Rory enjoys traveling, running, attending friends’ performances, and keeping up with all of the latest Star Wars content.

Rory would like to thank his family, friends, and teachers for supporting him in his musical endeavors through the years. He’s thrilled to continue to make amazing music and memories with the Hyannis Sound this summer!

Earl McBride

Music Director

Burlington, NC | University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill ‘24

Earl is excited to music direct during his second summer on the Cape with the Hyannis Sound. Hailing from Burlington, NC, Earl is a 22 year old eccentric musician and scholar. He recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Psychology and Neuroscience. Go heels!

His initial a cappella journey began in high school when he auditioned for WA Cappella at Western Alamance High School. There, he became passionate about making music with his friends and the process of composing and arranging music. However, it was not until matriculating into UNC that Earl realized his desire to pursue music in way that would affect individuals on a larger scale. As a sophomore, Earl was the music director of Tar Heel Voices and later, the Assistant Music Director of UNC’s awarding-winning Tarpeggios. As the child of two pastors, Earl also attributes a significant portion of his musicality and arranging style to gospel music.

Although music is a large component of Earl’s life, he is also passionate about how the brain works and the variables that are associated with mental illnesses. Earl recently completed a honors thesis within the Psychiatry  Department of the UNC Medical School, studying the risk factors, causes, and course treatment of clinical high risk symptoms associated with psychosis. Eventually, Earl plans to obtain a Ph.D. in clinical psychology to specifically aid in the healthcare disparities within marginalized communities and youth. He plans to utilize music as an alternative medicine.

When he is not singing a cappella or pursuing academic endeavors, Earl enjoys traveling, bingeing tv shows (especially Marvel) and anime, playing the piano, and trying new food, often provided by his friends that can “throw down in the kitchen”

Xavier Cornell

Operations Manager

Canoga Park, CA | Manhattan School of Music ‘25

To say Xavier’s excited to be back on the Cape is an understatement!  Though he may be the tallest member of the group at 6’3”, he’s (still) one of the Sound’s youngest member this summer at just 20 years old.  Xavier is originally from Canoga Park, California meaning he’s no stranger to a beachy atmosphere!  He currently studies Musical Theatre at Manhattan School of Music in New York City and is entering his Senior year next fall.

Xavier comes from a very athletic family, but after some trials and errors in his young athletic career, his whole family was on the same page that sports were not his calling. He started singing in his church’s youth choir and has been in love with music ever since! He participated in his first ever musical (The Sound of Music, where he played a dancing marionette) the summer before his 4th grade year and hasn’t stopped doing musical theatre since.  He fell in love with a cappella in high school after joining his school’s competitive group Abbe Road. Around the house, he’s most known for being the member that “was on The Voice” after competing on Season 21 of NBC’s hit singing show and making it to the Top 32 on Team Kelly Clarkson!

In his free time, Xavier enjoys going on walks, songwriting, being a MASSIVE tennis nerd, watching Survivor, and playing basketball!

Now in his third summer, Xavier is excited to me the most senior member of the group and can’t wait to sing up and down the Cape all summer long once again!
